Lu Over the Wall

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Lu Over the Wall can be more fun to watch than to follow, but director Masaaki Yuasa's distinctive visual style offers colorful compensation for an occasionally scattered story.

Tasha Robinson Polygon A surprisingly sweet and passionate story. Aug 18, 2020 Full Review Kristy Puchko Pajiba Thirsting for a deeply whimsical, relentlessly playful, and intensely sweet spectacle? May 14, 2018 Full Review William Bibbiani TheWrap Lu Over the Wall is many films, all of them vying for the same screen time. It's as chaotic as it sounds. May 11, 2018 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming Despite the awkward animation and the convoluted narrative, however, Lu Over the Wall</i? possesses a uniquely irresistible charm that greatly outweighs its shortcomings. Rated: 3/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com The film is a classic take on a fairy tale. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 15, 2020 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine The animation feels perpetually infused with a sense of enjoyment; one imagines the production team enjoyed themselves as much as their audience do. Audience Member The greatest 01 hour: and 47 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is so colorful, and soundtrack was really good! Personally, the art style is so good, it's like a combination of Devilman and Ponyo ahahha. What did concern me was that Lu looks like a little kid, but I've read that the relationship between her and kai is platonic and they're just friends so ig that's fine, besides that this movie is really good. My favorite movie for now. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Uma história ingênua e colorida sobre uma sereia que gosta de fazer amizade com humanos. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member the animation kinda sucks :/ and main character isnt relatable. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Boring plot and bad art in my opinion Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Negatively impacted by its sins that lowered its rising level because they didn't serve the story besides bringing an abrupt change through the twofold generic narrative structure, but from where it is the so-so by the immediate sounds of it is a dot. This spiritual descendant to "Ponyo" is adorably precious and wonderful with a loving heart over the cuteness, uplifted cheerfulness and soulful innocence connected to meaningful friendship while unpredictable in the inventive animation and the characterization – with its own contagious phenomenon in feeling good spirits while separately laughing and foot-tapping, might rank as an animated favorite for Gene Kelly.
