Anupama Chopra Film Companion Zoya is a second generation of Bollywood kid. She has seen it all and she calls it all out - the mediocrity and hypocrisy. She calls out nepotism way before nepotism became a thing. May 18, 2020 Full Review Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express There's enough in the film to keep you going. Now that Zoya's got her first movie out of her system, it'll be fun looking out for her second. May 5, 2015 Full Review Mark Olsen Los Angeles Times Luck by Chance is a sharp look at how stardom is both desired and created and the personal and professional toll it can take on those who pursue it. Jul 7, 2010 Full Review Jimmy Cage Jimmy Cage Movie Reviews (YouTube) LUCK BY CHANCE is a nice Bollywood drama that shows many facets of the industry in a fun and sometimes refreshing way. Overall, the film is a bit too much fluff though and lacks some more edges. Rated: 7/10 Aug 25, 2023 Full Review Sloan Freer Radio Times Indian writer/director Zoya Akhtar takes an affectionately satirical look at Bollywood in her likeable yet overlong debut. Suprateek A Watched this film today with an open mind and oh boy I have so much to talk about! Y'all I think I'm in love with Konkana Sen😻 She was so fricking amazing!!! She is the reason I gave this film 4 1/2. She gave the character of Sona the much needed nuance and made her character memorable. Her acting skills made her look 10 times more hotter. But seriously thought I'm still in awe of her performance and especially her character, I just love her. Enough about Konkana. This fil was ahead of its time and I would consider it Zoya Akhtar's best outing yet. So many of its characters and shots reminded me of Bojack Horseman as well as Birdman , I was surprised to see how Zoya managed to pull off something like this back in 2009 when romance and remakes were at an all time high. The writing was just amazing to say the least. All the supporting characters were very well written and well acted too including the subtle cameos. I was invested in the subplots which is quite rare to witness in Hindi cinema. It's exploration of dark emotions and dark character arcs just amazes me. I have to talk about the meta nature of this film, I don't want to reveal anything but it was so brilliant and such scenarios are still prevalent in the industry. The biggest meta moment was with Sona and Konkana Sen, both of them despite being talented never really got the break that they deserved and never became a part of big projects. I hope Konkana acts more because we need actresses like her who can ACT. In conclusion all I can say is that I just love the film and I highly recommend it, you can watch it at least for once for Konkana!! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/01/23 Full Review Audience Member 'Movies about movies' are a genre that Hollywood loves to do, but Bollywood hasn't done too often. Luck By Chance is one of the best entries in the genre, and is quite an ambitious concept for someone's debut film. Only a lifelong insider like Zoya Akhtar could have had the clout and the vantage point to make this, and she executes her vision really well. The only trick I think she missed was casting her brother in the lead role - casting an unknown actor in the part of an unknown actor would have really brought the whole thing together. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A good story line but you would still feel that the movie had the potential to be even better. A film were how Bollywood functions and various emotional journey shown from the eye of a starlet and a struggling actor turned star is shown, you would still feel that something was still missing and there one would feel that the movie had the potential to be even better. Songs are good and good performance by Farhan Akhtar. Konkana is effortless and others fit in well. watch out for Rishi Kapoor who is fantastic as a producer. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A fresh take at story telling at its best. inconceivably predictable. hats off to the cast and crew. Charming main character in Farhan. A matured observation in the field of cinemas. The movie delicately presented a truly genuine documentary of behind the scenes of Bollywood in a fictionalized way Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member A perfectly knit storyline with the right combo of fine acting displayed by Farhan Akhtar, Konkona Sen Sharma and the rest. The movie pampers the reality and humanness of the stars without compromising on the glitter and glamor. An ideal movie to watch on any laid back day. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Mini Review 12: Luck by Chance Plot: Aspiring actor Vikram Jaisingh (Farhan Akhtar) dreams of striking gold in Bollywood, by hook or crook, and is waiting for his first break. When nothing seems like coming around, he lands the role of a leading man in one of the most prestigious films. From there on his luck is on a trail run but he falls victim to the usual vicissitudes of stardom, glory, money and paparazzi. Positives: --> Presence of multiple stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan to quote a few --> Extremely natural performance by Konkana Sen Sharma which comes pretty naturally to her --> Great music and background score by Shankar Ehsaan Loy Negatives: --> Truly lucky Farhan Akhtar with not an iota of performance written across him.
