Thomas H This film attempts to marry two established Hong Kong comedy franchises, Aces Go Places & Lucky Stars, but the relationship is clearly doomed. While there are genuine laughs here and there, and excellent action courtesy of Sammo Hung's (legendary) stunt team, Lucky Stars Go Places stumbles into a couple of pitfalls. For starters, we see a new cast for the Lucky Stars team, and only half the Aces are present. The result is essentially a retread of jokes from My Lucky Stars, and a disconnected sub plot involving Sammo Hung getting crossed up with Aces counterpart. That retread is the second weakness with the film: a huge section is almost a shot fir shot rehash of the first half of My Lucky Stars, which itself felt a lot like Police Academy. If you are unfamiliar with either series, avoid Lucky Stars Go Places until you're more familiar with the previous material, all of which is more enjoyable.
