[Tina] Aumont's Carmen is fascinating, a woman who pays her debts and honors her obligations, lives and loves as she chooses, and never apologizes for her choices. Go to Full Review

Matthew D @OceanSage May 18 Franco Nero is enthralling in this amusing and touching Western version of Carmen! Director Luigi Bazzoni’s romantic Spaghetti Western drama Man, Pride and Vengeance (1967) is quite stunning. This tragic tale of love and betrayal actually reminded me of The Leopard. It is riveting. Editor Roberto Perpignani’s sleek and arthouse cuts make for a fascinating watch. These 1960s Italian Spaghetti Westerns have so much style that it is astonishing. I love the ever moving camerawork of cinematographer Camillo Bazzoni. Franco Nero is excellent and moving as the forlorn officer turned murderer Don José. He’s a lovable romantic figure in this touching romantic tragedy. Tina Aumont is sultry and alluring as the temping femme fatale Carmen. She’s playful as she toys with Nero, but infuriating as she just obviously uses him for her gain. Composer Carlo Rustichelli’s exciting film score utilizes gentle Spanish flamenco guitars for a romantic sensation. See more 06/14/2022 An Italian western based on an actual work of classic literature, Carmen, Man, Pride and Vengeance (which was sold as Mit Django kam der Tod (Wth Django Came Death) in Germany due to Franco Nero being the star) is actually set in Europe instead of the American west. Don José (Nero) is bewitched by Carmen (Tina Aumont, Arcana), even allowing her to escape an arrest which finds him demoted. He soon learns that she's also slept with Lt. Pepe (Franco Ressel, Blood and Black Lace) which makes him insane, so he kills the man and runs from the city. He's injured and barely makes it before being rescued by Carmen's family, which surprisingly has her husband Garcia (Klaus Kinski!) amongst them. He wants to run to America with her. She says they need gold, gold that can only come from robbing a stagecoach with Garcia's gang. Of course, everyone — including the woman that got him to this ebb — is out to destroy Don José. But if you know Carmen, you already knew that. One should expect such a strange western to come from a creative force like Luigi Bazzoni, who also made two of the best giallo — The Possessed and The Fifth Cord — as well as one of the strangest, Footprints on the Moon. See more 08/10/2009 Incredibly well made Spaghetti western from the director of highly stylish Giallo The 5th Cord, Luigi Bazzoni . Man, Pride & Vengence is not your typical Spaghetti western. For one thing it doesnt even take place in the states. It takes place in Spain. This is a tragic love story first and a western second. Tina Aumont plays a Gypsy whos charm even casts a spell on the viewer. Franco Nero is a soldier who like the viewer falls for the seductive Aumont. Well photographed, great cast and a seriously cool score from Carlo Rustichelli. See more Read all reviews
