M S A magnificent film with stellar performances by all the actors involved especially Ms. Leila Bekhti who, with wide ranging emotions, brilliantly portrays Mrs. Esther Perez. Your heart melts as you watch her demonstrate how unconditional love, deep faith, and unrelentless hope can bring about miracles. Threaded throughout and playing a significant role in the film’s storyline is the glorious, uplifting music of Ms. Sylvie Vartan . Her music and appearance is pinnacle to the fascinating , true life story of Mr. Roland Perez as depicted in his book by the same name. Here, music does indeed “soothe the soul”, unite and bring joy. The film is a stunning tribute to all mothers who protect, fight for, defend and support their children and to their children who draw strength ,prosperity and learning from their examples. Far- reaching are the presented universal themes of hope, faith, family, honoring the disabled, the power of love , and music’s ability to alter and enrich one’s life. Ma mère, Dieu et Sylvie Vartan is a film much needed in these harsh, uncertain times . An inspiring, poignant, passionate and, at times, lighthearted film about and wrapped in love.
