In the decade since his fiancee was killed, an Army Ranger, Green Beret and Navy SEAL rolled into one (Will Forte) has sworn off fighting crime, preferring instead to rock his mullet as a man of peace. But when his sworn enemy, Dieter Von Cunth, steals a nuclear warhead, only MacGruber and his crack team of experts (Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe) are equal to the task of bringing the villain to justice.

MacGruber isn’t just a comedy—it’s a cult masterpiece for those with a taste for the absurd. If you’re into humour that’s as wild as it is unexpected, this film will be right up your alley. It’s one of those rare comedies that seems to get better with each watch; every time I rewatch it, I catch a new line or visual gag that leaves me in stitches. The layers of comedy here aren’t immediately obvious, but that’s what makes it so endlessly rewatchable. For those who “get it,” MacGruber is an absolute comedic gem, worthy of far more recognition than it ever got.

If you stretch the joke too thin, it'll become unfunny. Your standard SNL feature-length skit boasts Forte's humorous approach and Kilmer's participation with the overall humor more fitting for fans, but for those who have watched less to none are probably better off to watch the trailer or the skits, if they're actually funny that is. Otherwise, this action comedy is utterly frivolous, not in a good way. (C)
