Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa I think is a superior version of the first movie. Basically, this whole trilogy is an adventure along the way to a long journey home. In which case, each entry is kind of structured like an act. And I find this to be a more entertaining, emotional, and funny adventure compared to its predecessor. It’s still not high art or anything, and the story along with the plotting is still pretty basic. But the characters have stronger arcs, richer backstories, and I think there’s just more fun to be had. A very solid follow-up to a beloved original. Actually, I really liked how the villain, Makunga, was a Scar wannabe but actually was able to be beaten by an elderly woman (Who is also quite the character). We have a great plot here for all the animals, and get introduced to some very interesting characters, most endearing of them all being, of course, Moto Moto. The penguins and chimps also have some interesting conversations about plane repairing. The humor is great, as is the animation (well not the best animation, but still good for its time), good music (especially Moto Moto's song), and...is there anything else to say?
