The song sequences are laughable, the feelings are so fake, poor acting too. The half hearted romance is so fake, like oh! (I can't be honest about the depiction the painstaking efforts women of the era undertook to present themselves devout due to the weaponized views of modern liberalism.) Nevertheless, the reformer (protagonist) in this film was a real social justice reformer! A hero, indeed! Yet, he recognized the importance of cultural norms and valued traditions... as his fight wasn't to burn it all down, but to address the corruption itself. I was moved by how much emphasis the film gives to family and especially to religious devotion. The dress and decor is breathtaking to a foreigner. I believe the people who give this landmark film such scathing reviews only want to turn Bollywood into Hollywood. Please never let this happen, or Bollywood will be doomed to become the exact pit of vile filth this movie was intended to expose as the adversary of truth and social wellness. It will spread into your society and become a highly corrupt instrument of the State and have the same adverse impact on the social life and valued culture of your country, just as Hollywood is in ours. This movie captivated me and is probably my very favorite to date. Truly beautiful. I look forward to many more like this.
