Audience Member Fitfully interesting to see Mailer and company finding a setting and hoping, with increasing anxiety, for a film to spontaneously occur without the interference of a text or subtext, direction or apparent motivation. Rip Torn's unique decision to send the film into something resembling a climactic moment is one of the more disturbing and hard-not-to-watch moments ever captured on film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Juvenile, embarrassing, egotistical. Mailer can compare himself all he likes to Bunuel (at least three times by name in the first dozen or so minutes), but that only draws attention to what a very poor copy he is. This is easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen (Mailer reminds me of Joe Pesci's character in JFK, or a combination of the two main characters in The Master)--the only compelling thing in it is Rip Torn at the end (that, and the young black man forcefully speaking about slum life).
