While filming a biopic of Italian author Cesare Pavese in Rome, American actor Steve Elliott (Peter Coyote) falls for his British co-star, Jane Steiner (Greta Scacchi). After Steve refuses an interview with Jane's journalist father, the two actors begin a steamy affair mirroring the relationship of their characters in the film. But when Steve's wife, Susan (Jamie Lee Curtis), discovers her husband's lies, the affair damages not only Steve's family but Jane's.

A Man in Love is by Diane Kurys who made the good Peppermint Soda and the excellent Coup de Foudre... This is a big and undoubtedly expensive commercially oriented love story, and curiously empty by comparison.

A smart, complicated film about one of the narcissistic, charismatic men many women have in her life---a film star who falls in love with an extra on the set of his movie about Cesare Pavese, the great Italian writer. The problem is that he also loves his wife! The film was a HUGE hit in France and Europe and made about 12 dollars in America. Still, it's fine.

Synopsis
