Exiled unjustly, convicted without a trial, slandered without cause. The life of St. Nektarios of Aegina was one of persecution and prosecution. A priest of the common people, his popularity provoked the jealousy of the clergy in Alexandria and as a result, he was defrocked and expelled from Egypt. In contrast to his religious "superiors", Nektarios cared for the poor, taught peasant girls to read and write, and performed miracles. Even his last moment on earth was used to help another: upon his death, Nektarios' undergarment was removed, and as it fell upon a paralyzed man in the hospital bed next to him, the lame man arose to walk. So, too, do we hope MAN OF GOD will awaken the paralyzed faith in audiences around the world.

Leslie Felperin Guardian This pious work is clearly designed to send believers into a state of ecstasy, but it may be a bit of a slog for the secular. Rated: 2/5 Sep 5, 2022 Full Review Filipe Freitas Always Good Movies Popovic struggled all the way with blandness and never found the key to rehabilitate the clerical figure in question. There was obviously much more to this man. Rated: 2/5 Aug 7, 2022 Full Review Sr. Rose Pacatte Sister Rose at the Movies Anyone interested in church history and ecumenical dialogue will find this story rather fascinating. Audience Member It reminds me of St. Francis of Assisi who was basically thrown out of his own Order. It amply demonstrates persistence, faith, forgiveness, hope and love, even as the saint is always there for those seeking a path, an answer, and healing. However, it should have been made with a little more drama in general and emotional articulation from the saint, with heaving and pitching music to match certain scenes (although some of the music was beautiful, particularly in the scene where he carried the basket of rocks) (learn from Romero and Jesus of Nazareth). Maybe it's just me, but I fell asleep a couple times, lulled by the all-too-quiet dialogue. Could have shown a book of his and given us some more inspirational quotes from it, as well as inserting scripture passages pertaining to his and others suffering and in the dialogue with those who persecuted him. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/02/24 Full Review Nancy R I was deeply touched by this man's holy life. This is an excellent movie about a man who followed Jesus Christ teaching to the end. I recommend this movie especially when you feel like giving up on God. The Saints always point us to Jesus. I'm Roman Catholic and I am blessed to have learned about this holy man of God. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review MWS M Just saw this great movie on Saint Nektarios. Was at a retreat at an old monastery in Albania near Greece. We were all greatly inspired. The man was a true saint. Movie was beautifully made, captured the time and place. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Isaac E Contrary to the review, Leslie Ferapin - who missed the point of the movie entirely - this movie was unbelievable. The pain, rawness, and truth of this story is awe-inspiring. The fact that this story actually happen makes it even more poetic. It's a must-watch no matter what you believe. Also, pray for Leslie, I don't think she gets the point of life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review hoss R I loved this movie. Based on a true saint of the orthodox church. Mickey Rourke does great work in a short scene. Only wish his was more. All the players were great. God bless them all. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review Ale I love this film. I have watched it many times and never get sick of seeing it. Beautifully made. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
