Jessica Kiang Variety It is both over- and under-worked, bristling with ideas and issues and subplots that have but little connective tissue holding them together. Audience Member Since this seems to be director's Susan Youssef's first feature film, I don't want to be too judgmental but I found it hard to watch. There were a lot of things 'off' about it and I couldn't pinpoint the reason. It was hard to follow the story through random scenes that seemed haphazardly patched together. Maybe that was an editing mishap, because I know often new filmmakers don't have enough of a budget for post production. Also, throughout the film, I thought the actress was a newcomer because she was very stoic, but upon further research learned that she is a professional actress so perhaps this performance was intentional but it did not work at all. The rest of the cast was great, including Marjoun's kid sister, but for me it wasn't enough to save the film. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member It's so easy to see yourself in the struggles of Marjoun as a teenage girl. It's even easier when you're a second generation immigrant. Beautiful storytelling and visually stunning. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
