Chandler Levack Globe and Mail Marlene refuses to go anywhere interesting. Apr 13, 2022 Full Review Peter Howell Toronto Star “Marlene” narrows the frame on a landmark legal story and in so doing brings it into sharper focus. It shows how love can conquer anything if the love is strong enough. Rated: 3/4 Apr 7, 2022 Full Review Liam Lacey Original Cin The story of the woman who succeeded in clearing her husbands name in one of Canadas most sensational legal cases is poorly served in this clumsy legal melodrama. Rated: C Apr 13, 2022 Full Review Chris Knight National Post It’s certainly an uplifting story, though its final note is soured somewhat by the reminder that the actual killer was never found. But there’s enough natural drama and suspense here without the awkward, mawkish push given to it by the filmmakers. Rated: 2/5 Apr 8, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Karen K This movie was based on the true story of a 14-year-old boy convicted of a murder he did not commit and the 49-year struggle to clear his name. It was told from his wife's point of view, concentrating, not on what she did, but on her unending and irrelevant emotions with his heartbreaking story as a mere backdrop. It was written as if he didn't matter and her feelings were of the utmost importance. The writing and directing were terrible (both by Wendy Hill-Tout), with endless, irrelevant flashbacks. The soundtrack was right out of the 1950s, but the worst was the make up - the wigs worn by the star (Kristin Booth) were laughable and distracting, making her look like a doll. And the make up used to make Greg Bryk look older was shockingly obvious lines drawn across his forehead with an eyebrow pencil. This story deserved so much better. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/26/23 Full Review Marnelle C Loved it - Kristen Booth was so wonderful and played an amazing role in this true story - a terrible injustice in Canada for this innocent little 14 year old boy Steven who was wrongly convicted - Greg and Kristen were perfectly cast for the roles - very moving story Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/23/22 Full Review Read all reviews
