What to Know

Critics Consensus

Liam Neeson isn't necessarily a bad fit for the classic character, but Marlowe fails to make a case for itself as either a worthwhile franchise extension or a fun mystery in its own right.

Audience Says

Marlowe has some decent period detail, but all in all, this misguided revival is so slow and dull that it'll leave fans of the character headed for a big sleep.

Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It’s a deluxe nostalgia trip guided by a director who really knows his way around the genre. I guess we’ll never see Neeson make another good movie again. Rated: D- Mar 6, 2024 Full Review Farah Cheded A Good Movie To Watch A not insignificant portion of the dialogue is so hard-boiled you can see the cracks [but] a couple of bright spots in the starry cast [and] handsome production values keep the movie slinking along well enough. Dec 8, 2023 Full Review Stephanie Bunbury Deadline Hollywood Daily Marlowe isn’t perfectly hard-boiled, but it isn’t scrambled either. It’s fun and it’s fast: Information and wisecracks are packed into every minute of every scene to the point of giddiness. Sep 26, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Michael M It was a rather complex plot so pay attention! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/25/23 Full Review Betsy Burlene Marlowe movie was slow moving & not very interesting. Just not a very good movie. I give it a 3 stars. Expected more from Liam Neison but guess he's getting older & can't do the all out action movies anymore. Too bad, he's a top notch actor & one of my favorites Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/09/23 Full Review Mr. Hollywood Damn. Read all Raymond Chandlers novels and love the Phillip Marlowe character and was looking forward to this movie. Big disappointment. Instead of using one of those stories they used a novel from another writer who wrote a Phillip Marlowe story trying to emulate Mr. Chandler. It doesnt work. Just like this movie didnt work. The pieces were there but the film is dry and doesnt even have that P.I. feel to it. Shame. Not a bad film just a disappointment as theres seven novels with this character from the original writer out there that they just didnt use. And even without that, the film itself is missing something. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/09/23 Full Review Thomas S This is a perfect example of putting big name actors in a movie then disrespecting them with a stilted script, poor directing and even poorer production leaving segue scenes on the floor. I dont know why Liam allowed himself to be put in such a poor picture. Everyone over 50 likes the timeless character Marlowe and I expected more. Too bad. Had such promise. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/02/23 Full Review Mary Jane H This was not your typical Liam Neesom movie with fast tough guy stuff. However it was a carefully crafted era movie and Neesom was terrific. Until the end I did not know how or who Was the perpetrator . Loved the movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/01/23 Full Review Teresa G Horrible dialog, storyline and acting. Expected more from a Liam Neeson movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
