Anton Bitel Sight & Sound comedy itself is also one of the film's dividing lines of Islamic identity, as Cassim and Ebrahim negotiate (and redefine) together how many ha's it takes to pass from what is 'halal' (permissible) to what is 'halaam' (sinful). Shaun G Religious but powerful actors Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/07/24 Full Review Audience Member Very few films manage to be so funny and touching at the same time. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A pleasant South African film. I didn't think they made them that way down there but evidently they do. It is about a Muslim guy who wants to do stand up, his conservative father doesn't want him to, and the story goes on cruise control after that. Will the father be smiling in the audience at the end of the movie? I'll never tell! It sure made the film festival crowd I saw it with in Cleveland happy, though. It is interesting to see other cultures in far-off lands, but otherwise it is pretty ordinary. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
