A satire that cannot decide whether or not its protagonists are true grifters or genuine believers which loses the edge it needs to take on the Jacob Wohls and Jack Burkmans of the world. Barinholtz's The Oath is the film to see instead.

There are scattered laughs here and there, and Barinholtz certainly never stops trying to sell the material...But this is a one-joke affair content to coast on the farcical surface...As such...it overstays its welcome.

We only get a couple good comedy movies a year now. This and Renfeld are basically it so far. This was funny and smart. It's like a movie about Michael Scott, mixed with Kathryn Hahn's character in Parks and Rec, mixed with some Andy Samberg Popstar. If you like witty mockumentaries with no dumb CBS sitcom-style jokes, then you'll like this.
