Audience Member This dramatization of an important day in Korean history finds soldiers abusing civilians after a military coup, and a group of people stuck in the middle of it. As things escalate, things become more bloody and a bit melodramatic. The movie has some tense moments but it ends on a rather depressing note. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Real heart touching film Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member There are two moments in this film that are amazing segments of the emotional strain caused by violence. The rest of the film is South Korean's war film version of "Armageddon", and it sucks. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member bastards... true bastards. have the nerve to attack innocent people thinking they know they are all rebels. beating, killing... shameful. the fact that the one who ordered the initial attack didn't come forward to admit they did it, just shows you that they are truly the cowards. you are man enough to order but you aren't man enough to cop up to it... that's just bs! bastards, just plain cowardly bastards. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The film is based on the massacre at Gwangju? on May 18. 1980. It occurred when President Chun Doo-hwan tried to eliminate any rebels by using military force. This is a MAJOR film that needs to be seen by everyone. Min Woo leads a relatively peaceful life with his younger brother Jin Woo until the day the soldiers go on the rampage against the citizens. The citizens form a militia determined to protect their loved ones, and Min-woo finds himself in the middle of it all. These soliders are crazy.....but i just guess they're following orders. An unbelivable situation.....quite horrific. Well done. A must see film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member "Korean Week", Day 6. 'May 18' is a gripping and deeply moving film based on true events (that never should've taken place). A bit too melodramatic, perhaps, but still highly recommended.
