Ross McIndoe Slant Magazine McVeigh’s ominous atmosphere is omnipresent, clinging to Timothy like a dog to a bone. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 5, 2025 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Variety These films have sometimes been accused of exploitation, but the time is more than right for a movie like “McVeigh,” which records how its subject’s descent into terrorism was propelled by the ideas of the new right-wing zealotry. Jun 10, 2024 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue ... establishes an underlying tension as it moves toward an inevitable outcome, but doesn’t provide much fresh perspective on the broader underground radicalization of ideological extremists or fringe groups, despite the contemporary parallels. Mar 28, 2025 Full Review Jesse Doppelt Spectrum Culture Mike Ott succeeds in avoiding the glorification of Timothy McVeigh, but in doing so, he also sacrifices emotional investment, resulting in a film that, while thought-provoking, often feels distant and difficult to watch. Mar 26, 2025 Full Review John Serba Decider McVeigh is a tough sell, and far from “entertaining.” But as a snapshot of a reprehensible human being, it’s an effective and upsetting reflection of the way things were in America, and continue to be. Mar 24, 2025 Full Review Abbie Bernstein Assignment X Well-made, in the sense that the dialogue and behavior is all credible, the performances are good, and the imagery is consistently bleakly handsome. Tori T I fell asleep and had to start it over. Extremely boring and took out the actual facts. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Kevin M An absolute waste of time. 90 minutes of a brooding, pensive McVeigh smoking cigarettes in darkened rooms. Awful Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Brian C I really enjoyed this film. Excellent cast and great tension. Only reason I'm holding back the final star is because I would have loved to see how they caught him in the end. Really enjoyed this though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Stan M There is nothing to it. Ninety minutes of a lifeless character wordlessly staring on camera leading up to an ending that we all know, rather clumsily represented by a bad photo montage. The film makes no effort to develop McVeigh's character, provide insight into who he was or--most significantly in our current national mment--explain what motivated him to commit one of the worst crimes in our history. He starts the film as a weird guy silently driving a car and the film ends with him silently driving a truck en route to the Murrah Building with almost nothing in between except pictures of him staring, reading and stacking fertilizer. I am not really sure what the point of the film is but for me it was a total waste of time and money. The movie is a wasted opportunity to explore abnormality. It ends up being an exploration of staring at the camera. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Jesse H Interesting enough to hold my attention, awarded to the performances of and dynamic between Alfie and Brett, broken at times by Mr. Carrigan and his stupid beanie. Ultimately, this film serves as a reminder that American society was broken and horrifically self defeating long before the advent of Trumpism. A stark cinematic reminder to the world of American ignorance and brutality; especially when the two are combined with malice. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review Read all reviews
