From the comedic mind of Tina Fey comes a new twist on the modern classic, MEAN GIRLS. New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called "The Plastics," ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika). However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina's ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), she finds herself prey in Regina's crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group's apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis (Auli'i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Preserving the essence of the original while adding a few new wrinkles -- not to mention musical numbers -- Mean Girls is a sweet (if slight) update with an outstanding cast.

Audience Says

As long as you can avoid comparing it to the original -- and you don't mind musicals -- Mean Girls is a fun watch with some strong performances.

Scarlett Harris BBC.com If "not your mother's Mean Girls" means it's a departure from the problematic jokes that were a hallmark of the noughties, then it certainly delivers on that promise for Gen Z. Rated: 3.5 Jun 27, 2024 Full Review Jenny Nulf Austin Chronicle A shot-for-shot remake would have had more school spirit than this. Rated: 1/5 Mar 17, 2024 Full Review Catherine Bray Empire Magazine Sharp, funny and strongest when it stands on its own two perfectly manicured feet, this snappy musical successfully updates the original Mean Girls template for a fresh audience. Rated: 4/5 Mar 15, 2024 Full Review Shannon Cotter Film Ireland Magazine While Broadway fans might be propelled to return to the musical soundtrack, the performances and humour remain strong enough to allow Mean Girls (2024) to stand on its own merits. Sep 2, 2025 Full Review Clotilde Chinnici The People's Movies Mean Girls had a tough act to follow with the inevitable comparison to the original film but it is a film that works for fans of the musicals and one that I thought was a lot of fun to revisit the 2004 film 20 years later. Rated: 3.5/5 Aug 19, 2025 Full Review Marissa Hill Shade Studios While this new iteration offers a fresh perspective and modern flair, it doesn’t quite deliver the same sharp wit or memorable moments that made the original so timeless. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/25 Full Review Yvonne O Some things should be left alone… Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review Cavin Cady should’ve been played by someone else Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/24/24 Full Review Jonathan L It was a great family movie Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Brandi Great message! Singing was good, but there is a lot of it so be aware of that if you are not a musical person. Dress was provocative in some scenes even though the students were supposed to portray high school students. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Mary I liked that it showed how mean kids affect others It should become a mandatory movie for middle schools Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
