From the comedic mind of Tina Fey comes a new twist on the modern classic, MEAN GIRLS. New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called "The Plastics," ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika). However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina's ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), she finds herself prey in Regina's crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group's apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis (Auli'i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Preserving the essence of the original while adding a few new wrinkles -- not to mention musical numbers -- Mean Girls is a sweet (if slight) update with an outstanding cast.

Audience Says

As long as you can avoid comparing it to the original -- and you don't mind musicals -- Mean Girls is a fun watch with some strong performances.

Scarlett Harris BBC.com If "not your mother's Mean Girls" means it's a departure from the problematic jokes that were a hallmark of the noughties, then it certainly delivers on that promise for Gen Z. Rated: 1/5 Mar 17, 2024 Full Review Catherine Bray Empire Magazine Sharp, funny and strongest when it stands on its own two perfectly manicured feet, this snappy musical successfully updates the original Mean Girls template for a fresh audience. Rated: 4/5 Mar 15, 2024 Full Review Matthew Huff Parade Magazine Mean Girls is a mostly fun musical that desperately needs to shed its fat plotline. Rated: B Aug 15, 2024 Full Review Branyan Towe Loud and Clear Reviews Mean Girls (2024) does not seek to replace its big screen predecessor from 20 years ago, but rather complement it Rated: 4/5 Jul 29, 2024 Full Review Brittany Patrice Witherspoon Pop Culture Reviews ...in order to make a musical great, it must contain 1) fantastic musical numbers, 2) phenomenal choreography, and 3) the former two must work cohesively with the plot. In my opinion, Mean Girls failed in all three categories. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 26, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Jonathan L It was a great family movie Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Brandi Great message! Singing was good, but there is a lot of it so be aware of that if you are not a musical person. Dress was provocative in some scenes even though the students were supposed to portray high school students. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Mary I liked that it showed how mean kids affect others It should become a mandatory movie for middle schools Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Kris Excellent take on a classic. Reneé and Auli’i crushed the vocals. Fit for a new generation of mean girls Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Hope I loved the comedy and the songs are catchy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Rina I personally love musicals and did not get to see this on Broadway so it was a treat to see it in the movies. The cast is very talented with amazing voices. Could have done without repeated view of deep cleavages though Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
