Its first half was quite heart-pounding to me because my Dad is a real-life butcher, but the rest of the movie didn't have the same effect on me, to be honest. It has lots of gore, it's exciting, and the makeup here was amazing. However, I need to say that the romance didn't add to the bleak atmosphere. It was just unbelievable, even stupid, and the movie could have been much bleaker and just better, in my opinion, if the characters had put their pity and empathy aside in the life-threatening moments. My verdict: don’t rush to believe the reviews. It’s an overhyped trash horror movie, some people called brutal and scary. Yes, this movie is sometimes brutal, but it's not scary at all... It’s pretty basic, derivative, and mostly predictable. The only memorable and unexpected part is the final twist. For me everything else was just boring, primitive and clichéd.
