Meet Cute is a 99-minute sci-fi romcom released in 2022 which I watched on Prime in March 2026. Kaley Cuoco (Sheila) lucks upon an unusual time machine and uses it to go on a one-night date with Gary (Pete Davidson) 365 times. I confess to having a soft spot for romcoms with a sci-fi angel (proof positive, this is the second sci-fi fuelled romcom I’ve watched today). This film gets straight to the chase, and gives a simple time machine and simple time travel mechanics. The focus is the date night. And slowly, slowly, why Sheila keeps doing this to herself and Gary. There are twists and turns both at the emotional and the time travel level. There is a major twist which gives this film heartfelt pathos. Rewatch? Not really. Recommend? Absolutely. 7/10.

This movie made me feel more than I have in quite some time. It’s beautiful & even with the oft-used time-travel conceit it’s penetrating & original. The chemistry between the leads coupled with the writing feels so real it felt *recognized* at some spirit level rather than created. It should have a red tomato. F the critics.
