Dave Ming Chang (Eddie Murphy) is the ultimate fish out of water. Even though he's just arrived in New York, that doesn't explain his odd behavior or disjointed locomotion. The outside Dave is actually a spaceship, controlled by a crew of tiny aliens, and modeled after their captain. As the crew contends with a slew of physical challenges, such as eating, drinking and excreting, they begin to experience profound emotional changes as well.

Critics Consensus

Easy gags and slack direction drag this occasionally clever alien-out-of-planet comedy down to unimaginative lows.

Nell Minow Movie Mom Rated: C- Feb 18, 2012 Full Review Drew Toal Time Out Rated: 2/5 Nov 18, 2011 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle The new film is mildly amusing family entertainment, but when discussing the career of one of our most seasoned comic actors, "mildly amusing" can only be regarded as a letdown. Rated: 1/5 Oct 18, 2008 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com A disappointment from an actor who has recently shown the world he's capable of mighty fine acting. Rated: 1.5/4.0 Sep 16, 2020 Full Review Simon Miraudo Quickflix I might even go out on a limb and actually say that Meet Dave is, um, good. Rated: 3/5 Oct 21, 2014 Full Review Brian Orndorf BrianOrndorf.com I'm sure a more refined filmmaker could've squeezed the premise tighter for sophisticated laughs, but as family-angled sci-fi comedies go, Dave is actually quite agreeable. Who knew Murphy still had some fun left in him? Rated: B- Jun 2, 2010 Full Review Read all reviews

Tomaz B This is a funny movie from the beginning, after the first half, it didn't manage to keep me in as easily. I really like the concept, the movie is not even as bad as the movie rating would lead you to believe. There were so many moments when I felt second-hand embarrassment, which is something that most movies fail to get out of me. It's basically Star Trek, but more comedic. I liked it. :) Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/25 Full Review Yan Shao Y In my opinion, this movie is meaningful and worth watching, for it tells us sth.significant by comedy,it also warms our heart. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/29/24 Full Review kk k 我觉得这部影片非常好,讲述许多外星人,面对未知的地球,不断学习,一开始非常厌恶这里的船长慢慢被感化,也带动了自己的船员们,甚至感化了警察,最终都明白了爱(真情)的含义 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/24 Full Review 杭 杭 It's very funny and quite interesting, showing a change from prejudice against people to appreciation of them.It tells us that we should not blindly be prejudiced against others. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/29/24 Full Review Alvaro B For a family movie from my childhood, I remembered it being more enjoyable. Anyway, I guess it serves its purpose somehow. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/21/24 Full Review Carlos I Oof! What a dumb ass movie. I mean, I guess it might be kinda fun for kids... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/17/24 Full Review Read all reviews
