Synopsis
In the 1880s, a group of Hungarian Jews, including Hersko (Sàndor Gàspàr) and Vogel (Franciszek Pieczka), find the corpse of a young girl floating in a river. As is their custom, the devout men take the body and bury it. Local laws forbid such behavior, however, and, even worse, those in power are unrepentant anti-Semites who look for any excuse to commit violence against Jews. So the men are falsely accused of murder, after which they must endure torture as they hold out for justice.
