Mercenary Nick (Dolph Lundgren) is hired to perform what he swears will be his final mission. He assembles a team to go to an island in the Pacific to convince the natives, one way or another, to give up their mining rights. Once there, he finds himself charmed by the wisecracking village headman, Po (B.D. Wong), and attracted to single mom Loki (Charlotte Lewis). Nick decides to turn against his corporate bosses, but others opt to stick with the money, and a pitched battle ensues.

The last 20 minutes of "Men of War" certainly cook in unexpectedly gruesome ways. But getting there is a slog that feels too deferential to the original ideas of John Sayles' initial screenplay without a cast to compensate for that.

Men of War is a strong action film with a touch of exoticism which doesn’t fully age well. The technical side of things here is excellent and the cast works well together and with the script.

although lundgren is good in his role, men of war is a badly acted and written, generic action movie, with a story that is horribly constructed and doesn't make a lot of sense and at times can be quite boring, but all that aside I can't help but like it once the fighting, shooting, and exploding starts even though it's extremely illogical
