Kieron Corless Sight & Sound Ozge's film speaks to a very specific Turkish reality, one that usually lies hidden to the casual visitor, but aspects will inevitably resonate more widely in an era of precarious, globalised austerity. Jul 10, 2018 Full Review Andy Webster New York Times Quietly, steadily, it gathers a resonance belying its slice-of-life scale. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 19, 2012 Full Review Mark Holcomb Village Voice Raw yet respectful and tenderly observed... Jun 19, 2012 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site Özge follows her characters, probes their lives and feelings, considers their difficulties. She has a genuine interest in human beings. Feb 13, 2021 Full Review Vladan Petkovic Cineuropa The director has exercised considerable skill in letting the characters play exactly as much as they're able to, thus avoiding the main trap of using non-professional actors. Aug 11, 2020 Full Review Allan Hunter Daily Express (UK) It offers a plaintive window into an unfamiliar world. Rated: 3/5 Jan 31, 2011 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Richly observant story about 3 persons every day life, struggling for a better life in Turkey, a country with deep historical roots and challenges to adapt to the European Union. A movie about dreams, hope relationships and culture in a fast growing society. Highly recomanded. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Mike M If you eyes are drawn to the form, that may in this instance be as a result of a shortfall in content. "Men on the Bridge" is further evidence of the cinema's ability to open up a window on the world, yes; and there's something noble in the way it sets out to allow ordinary Turks to tell their stories, and momentarily play at being movie stars - to have some control over their lives, for once. Still, the whole seems to get stuck between documentary and fiction modes, too predetermined for one, not conclusive enough for the latter. It's a film that comes dangerously close to saying "here are some people, and this is what they do" - and I'm not sure if that in itself is worthy of your hard-earned. Granted, you get a sense of a nation being left at the roadside while the rest of the world passes by - but also of a film that ends up, whether by accident or sympathetic design, in much the same position. Perhaps it should have been left to the festival circuit. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/11 Full Review Audience Member The Documentary nature is prominent in our film.......the issues are modern , real & impressive to a stranger who doesn't know Istanbul specifically or Turkey in general.......the tempo is slow but still tight.....shooting the real characters & not actors was a brave step.......the screenplay is very urban & elegant at the same time even at those time of disagreeing & arguing between illiterate boys which give the Society in Istanbul an idealism in communicating......It could have been better but still something good to watch.
