Hot-shot Pat Falconer (Fred MacMurray), his brainy neighbor Scott Barnes (Ray Milland) and their young friend Peggy Ranson (Louise Campbell) share a deep love of aviation dating back to the moment of the Wright brothers' historic flight. This obsession with airplanes leads Falconer to the Air Force and wartime heroism and Barnes to a career as an aeronautics engineer. As the years progress, Barnes' and Falconer's friendship is tested by their mutual interest in Ranson.
