Manohla Dargis New York Times It's an artful, slightly absurdist romance, reminiscent of the gender-war comedies of Hong Sang-soo (Woman on the Beach) but more straightforward, with its meanings, and its feelings, much closer to the surface. Rated: 3/5 Nov 20, 2009 Full Review Andrew Schenker Village Voice It gets by on the subtle interplay of its contrasting leads, a welcome store of deadpan humor and, especially, Choi Sang-ho's gorgeous widescreen photography, which makes even a trip to an impound lot into a luminous, dusk-lit experience. Nov 17, 2009 Full Review Panos Kotzathanasis HanCinema Lee Yoon-ki manages to retain a loose and quite entertaining atmosphere throughout the film, a sentiment that is even more heightened by Kim Jeong-beom's music that combines classic and latin jazz. Jan 6, 2019 Full Review Steve Erickson Artforum My Dear Enemy often threatens to turn into a conventional romantic comedy, but it ends up flirting with such bromides rather than indulging them. Mar 8, 2018 Full Review James Wegg JWR The somewhat oddball premise of rekindling a dormant relationship by demanding repayment of a year-old $3,500 I.O.U. works remarkably well for director Lee Yoon-ki. Cloud Y Really enjoying the atmosphere of this movie. The pace, the view, and the acting all created a 2-hour comfortable space to taste such little interesting story. The ending is excellent. Love it. Remarkable portrait of a "type" of guy: perceptive, kind, loving, engaged, everything a woman would love. BUT it is hopeless to love this "type." Jane Austen or George Eliot, would comprehend this movie better than the RT reviewers have, so far. I saw the movie at MOMA, and found it transfixing. I don't think anyone left during the movie, and most people stayed sitting all through the Korean credits at the end. It's an amazing character portrait. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A woman embarks on a road trip with her ex to get back the money he owes her. Beautiful movie and great cast... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member great movie on why it's not enough just to be in love (as we know that from Suzanne Vega, as well) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful and sad and certainly a very realistic aspect of today's SK.
