Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times Whatever Method leaves out, most of what it includes is worth a look. Aug 13, 2012 Full Review Hank Stuever Washington Post The old clips are still a hoot, but there's a limit to how much compressed air a viewer can take, listening to a bunch of old men talk about how funny their friend was. Aug 13, 2012 Full Review Brian Lowry Variety Barson has made a doc too narrow in scope, with about as much substance as a meringue pie in the face. Aug 13, 2012 Full Review Mark Dawidziak Cleveland Plain Dealer Barson's documentary is as much a celebration as it is a study of this long career in comedy Aug 13, 2012 Full Review Ed Bark Uncle Barky Method to the Madness is adroitly packaged and probably in roughly the same flattering mode of a PBS American Masters tribute. Rated: B Aug 13, 2012 Full Review Matt Roush TV Guide As we watch, it's clear we'll always be Jerry's kids, engulfed in helpless laughter and admiration. Aug 13, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member If you are a true Jerry Lewis fan this documentary gets a 100% rating. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A rather fawning documentary on the film career of Jerry Lewis. The film ignores some of the darker elements of Jerry's life (or any mention of "Day the Clown Cried"), but Jerry was one of the producers on this film and protecting his reputation is something he's tirelessly done his entire career, so it wasn't really a big surprise. Still, this film interviews quite a list of film and comedy luminaries who provide some very good unsigned into the brilliance of Jerry Lewis, including Steven Spielberg, Alec Baldwin, Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy, Carl Reiner, Quentin Tarantino, Jerry Seinfeld, Billy Crystal, Carol Burnett, Richard Lewis and many more. That along was enough to make this a fascinating documentary for fans of Lewis. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Fascinating though bias doc on Lewis. Clearly the film did not point out the Jekyll and Hyde part of Lewis. Still very engaging though. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Pure self-adulation, yes, yet enjoyably, informatively, persuasively so. But still no footage from THE DAY THE CLOWN CRIED?
