Michael Clayton is one of the most sharply scripted films of 2007, with an engrossing premise and faultless acting. Director Tony Gilroy succeeds not only in capturing the audience's attention, but holding it until the credits roll.

There is a lot to admire in [Michael Clayton] regarding corruption and personal responsibility. You may, however, want to cut out before [the end]. Go to Full Review

The storytelling is so good I simply got caught up, and, as for George, he is seriously, seriously good... Here, his performance is passionate, subtle and right on the money. Go to Full Review

Jon G Nov 15 A great movie, one of George Clooney’s best. See more Fifty T Nov 9 The Debut Film That Feels Like a Master's Work: I finally watched "Michael Clayton" after years of meaning to, and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. This is exceptional filmmaking that deserved every accolade it received... and probably would have won Best Picture in any year that didn't pit it against "No Country for Old Men." What strikes me most is how assured Tony Gilroy's direction is for a debut. The non-linear structure never feels gimmicky, the pacing is absolutely confident after the first 30 min, and every scene serves the story without wasted motion. This is a director who knows exactly what he's doing. George Clooney completely owns this film. He strips away his movie star charm to play a man drowning in moral compromise and financial desperation. It's subtle, lived-in work... you feel Clayton's exhaustion in every frame. This might be Clooney's finest performance. Tilda Swinton's Oscar win was absolutely deserved. Her Karen Crowder is terrifyingly human - not evil, just ambitious and weak in the worst ways. Watching her practice presentations in bathroom mirrors makes her subsequent decisions even more chilling. The film trusts its audience completely. No hand-holding, no excessive explanation, just intelligent storytelling that respects viewers. It's a thriller about corporate corruption that never preaches, building tension through character rather than plot mechanics. 8.5/10 - Near-perfect filmmaking that holds up brilliantly. See more Terry S Jul 8 This film is as close to perfect in every respect as a film has a right to be. It caused me to become a die-hard George Clooney fan forever! Never get tired of re-watching. See more Daniel S Apr 27 HONEY, let me tell you about this DELICIOUSLY SCANDALOUS legal drama that had me LIVING! 🍿✨ Picture this: Big bad corporation's cooking up some spicy pesticide tea that's serving CANCER REALNESS to our Midwest farming fam! And what do we get? A THREE BILLION DOLLAR lawsuit that's more dramatic than my aunt's Facebook updates! Enter Tom Wilkinson, serving us unhinged lawyer REALNESS, having a moral crisis so epic it makes my caffeine withdrawals look calm! But wait - who's that walking in like he owns the place? GEORGE CLOONEY, honey! Looking like a SNACK in a suit, here to fix everyone's mess while serving face and justice! And don't even get me started on Tilda Swinton! QUEEN is out here playing an unethical lawyer like she's competing for an Olympic medal in SHADINESS! Work it, girl! 👑 The legal drama? HONEY, it's spicier than my grandma's secret recipe! We've got wire-tapping that's more intricate than my dating history, and murder scenes that had me CLUTCHING MY PEARLS! Tony Gilroy said "Let's make this legal drama FETCH" and honestly? He succeeded! The editing? GENIUS! It's jumping through time like it's got a Tardis, keeping us all on our toes like we're at a hot yoga class! And those Swinton scenes? *chef's kiss* PERFECTION! Clooney's performance? SERVING! He's giving us troubled lawyer realness with a side of gambling problems that somehow make him even more appealing! And his family drama? More layers than my winter wardrobe! We've got the genius son serving mini-Einstein vibes, a sick daddy giving us sympathy feels, and a cop brother bringing that law-and-order FLAVOR! Sure, some might say the character development is as shallow as my ex's personality, but WHO CARES when everyone's looking this good doing their thing?! The ending? It ties everything up prettier than a Tiffany's bow! This isn't just your mama's legal drama - it's a WHOLE VIBE! Serving more quality than your standard John Grisham adaptation with a side of EXTRA!
