Aubrey P This film is on the good side of average for sure. Superb performances from the leads, though pretty amateur effort from the rest. My primary wish is that this film had picked a tone. They cut between three distinct worlds (daughter's life with townies, daughter's life with inspiring interloper, and daughter's life with her father) primarily through the use of music, which made for a jarring watch. I would have been more than happy to settle into the muffled jukebox, neon bar signs and wood paneling of the local dive bar, but was often interrupted with unwashed teens killing time to rap-adjacent noise. Worked as a narrative device, but not so much for the ears. All-in-all, felt like a fairly authentic (albeit narrow) depiction of rural, conservative America, and the fallout of trauma, substance abuse, and toxic masculinity. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/23 Full Review favio c Un drama con un ritmo inquietante y digerible que muestra los problemas de ser un hijo y ser un padre. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/10/23 Full Review Dicaprio V Her acting is not convincing, looks weak. Predictable dialogue Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/20/22 Full Review isla s This is a bleak film, which had a couple of surprisingly poignant moments towards the end, in terms of the situations/scenarios and, primarily, the dialogue. I quite liked the cinematography, although it is certainly cliched and perhaps somewhat predictable. The plot is a little plodding and I wouldn't say this is more than a reasonably good film but yes, it's ok, though I wouldn't go out of your way to see it as such, no. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent film. I was impressed by the amount of research/homework the writer put into Anaconda area. Very real portrayal of what it can be like to live in an abusive home in small town USA. Stories like this one are happening all too often, all around us. Really, liked the main character and thought the abusive dad both were very convincing. Also appreciated how the film incorporated folks from Anaconda into the film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Chance watch while browsing the movie list on C4, always been intrigued by ‘coming of age' storylines however in recent years, too many films of this genre have been either predictable, vanilla or focused on stereotypical topics. The main actor is fabulous at telling us just enough about the challenging relationship with her father and her background. An excellent performance also by the male playing Hank/father and the actor in the role as steady boyfriend, both setting a believable scenario without any overly dramatic or far fetched narrative. Can't quite understand why the friend with benefits character is British but I guess he suited the directors intent, again bringing a feeling of what life is as a young adult/teenager and the choices you make. Great watch! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Scott Craven Arizona Republic "Mickey and the Bear" unfolds languidly, allowing tension to build slowly, intimately. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 13, 2019 Full Review Ann Hornaday Washington Post Every shot in "Mickey and the Bear" is scrupulously judged but never overworked or fussy, resulting in a movie that is as artful as it is unforced. Rated: 4/4 Dec 12, 2019 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Even at its most dire, Mickey and the Bear is tinged with an almost holy hope for all involved, a rare and remarkable feat to pull off so well for a first-time director indeed. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 5, 2019 Full Review Jason Best Marie Claire Mickey, the heroine of this thoughtful coming-of-age drama, is not your usual Midwest teenager. When she surreptitiously dips into her father's wallet, it's to put money in rather than take it out. May 23, 2020 Full Review Lisa Nesselson France24 A character study pulled off through superb performances. Feb 20, 2020 Full Review Leilani Polk The Stranger (Seattle, WA) When Mickey is finally pushed to action, it's a relief, suffusing Mickey and the Bear with a feeling of hope amid the darkness and transforming a good film into a great one.
