ARI TADEO P For Mickey fans, you will like this great movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Vitoria F Of all the reports on Mickey Mouse that I've seen, this was the most complete, without being afraid to mention several controversial subjects. I just don't understand why they didn't address House of Mouse and the Disney Junior series. It was really good when they emphasized that it's not right to hide, but rather to discuss, the moments in the past when characters did things that are socially unacceptable today. It's a shame that it didn't last long; less than a year later, Disney started hiding everything and even preventing its licensees from informing the public about the concealment... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/29/24 Full Review Teddy B A charming documentary that has enough good heartedness to distract from only it's very brief mentions of the controversies surrounding Disney and the sad realities of their traditionally animated workspace. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/27/23 Full Review Stephen S A fantastic documentary about the history of Mickey Mouse and how Mickey is still extremely popular today. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/30/23 Full Review Jose B "Mickey: The Story of a Mouse" (2022) - A Heartwarming Tribute to the Iconic Symbol of Joy by José Beltrán Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4 out of 5 stars) Review: "Mickey: The Story of a Mouse" is a delightful and insightful documentary directed by Jeff Malmberg that takes us on an enchanting journey through the history and filmography of the beloved Mickey Mouse. As a worldwide symbol of joy and the innocence of childhood, Mickey Mouse has touched the hearts of millions, and this film beautifully captures the essence of his enduring legacy. The documentary begins by delving into the humble origins of Mickey Mouse, tracing his remarkable rise to fame after his sensational debut in the 1928 animated short film, "Steamboat Willie." Through a masterful combination of archival footage, interviews, and behind-the-scenes glimpses, Malmberg artfully tells the story of how this endearing character captured the imagination of people around the globe. One of the documentary's greatest strengths is its ability to showcase how Mickey Mouse evolved over the decades, adapting to reflect the changes in both his creator's career and the societal shifts he came to represent. From his early mischievous and adventurous nature to his later embodiment of the American spirit during wartime, Mickey Mouse's journey serves as a mirror to the ever-changing world around him. Malmberg skillfully weaves together interviews with key figures from the animation industry, including artists, filmmakers, and historians, who share their profound insights into the cultural significance of Mickey Mouse. Their passion for the subject matter shines through, making "Mickey: The Story of a Mouse" not only an educational experience but also a love letter to the impact this iconic character has had on popular culture. The documentary's pacing is engaging, allowing the narrative to unfold naturally without losing the audience's attention. The archival footage is thoughtfully selected, providing a visual feast of Mickey's most memorable moments, from his classic cartoons to his appearances in theme parks and merchandise. While "Mickey: The Story of a Mouse" is undeniably a celebration of Mickey Mouse's enduring legacy, it does not shy away from acknowledging the challenges and controversies that have surrounded the character throughout his history. By offering a balanced exploration of Mickey's evolution, the documentary deepens our understanding of how this animated mouse has managed to captivate audiences for nearly a century. If there is one minor critique, it is that some aspects of Mickey Mouse's story could have been further explored. While the film successfully captures the character's impact on American culture, it could have delved more into his global influence and how he resonates with audiences across different countries and generations. In conclusion, "Mickey: The Story of a Mouse" is a heartwarming tribute to the enduring legacy of Mickey Mouse. Director Jeff Malmberg expertly guides us through the fascinating journey of this iconic character, highlighting his impact on popular culture and his ability to bring joy to people's lives. Whether you're a longtime Mickey Mouse fan or someone looking to learn more about this cultural phenomenon, this documentary is a must-watch. It reminds us why Mickey Mouse remains an endearing symbol of hope and happiness, transcending time and generations. Overall, "Mickey: The Story of a Mouse" earns a solid 4 out of 5 stars, making it a must-see for Disney enthusiasts and fans of animation history alike.
