There were some funny moments, but it's painful to watch knowing this guy could have been truthful so many times but doesn't to save himself from conflict. At some point early on it becomes difficult to root for him.

There's a million different ways in which this film could have been a disaster considering its decidedly non-PC plot line - reading the description one could imagine a dramatic Lifetime Television Movie Event. Miraculously it not only works but is one of the great comedies of the last 50 years, a criminally underrated gem from master comedy director Blake Edwards. Honestly, the success or failure of this comedy depends solely on the likability and believability of its leading man, and Dudley Moore succeeds brilliantly. His character makes decisions that are realistically borderline heinous, but we appreciate his dilemma and understand his heart. Irving and Reinking as the wives are both luminous, and the supporting cast of character actors first rate. As a side note, I don't think this film would EVER be green-lit in today's sensitive climate.

Tried and true Dudley Moore/Blake Edwards farce generally works although was probably past its prime at this point; remarkable that Ann Reinking did not become a major star as she looks nothing short of amazing on screen
