“Mid-Century” opens with a murder and it all seems to be building to an obvious conclusion, and then a wicked twist slaps you in the face and changes everything. Does it all work? Oh, no, but you can’t help but admire its ambition. Go to Full Review

Sonja O'Hara, won best director at LAFF, her film has good performances, a couple of good jumps and the premise that the real scary movie happened in the 60s where man ruled, woman obeyed and past that everything was permissible. {Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

“Mid-Century” turns into kind of a mess that gets more and more hard to follow. Unlike the trademark lines and short sharp lines of the mid-century design, this yarn only becomes fuzzy. Go to Full Review

Christian H @MatchaC Jan 2 The epitome of what’s wrong with movies in 2022. Terrible story. Terrible dialogue. Nonsense scenes. The “good guys” are obvious from the first second they’re on screen and so are that “bad guys” there’s no complex mystery or interesting display of showmanship. It’s “and then” storytelling to a tee. Things happen because the plot needs it to happen. Not because something else caused it. One of the worst movies I’ve seen in a while which is saying something. See more michael d 08/11/2024 This could've been a decent movie. But it is poorly written. You can see the flashes of a good movie. It is just disjointed sequences that have no narrative through line. Good actors good cinematography. It had the makings of a good thriller. Maybe a quality script doctor could've punched it up. See more Kyle C 10/24/2023 Mid-Century is a fun throwback watch for the Halloween season. It gives vibes of Hitchcock and 1950s paranormal thrillers, with modern day issues like #MeToo and COVID-19 brought to the surface. Chelsea Gilligan and Sarah Hay shine, and Stephen Lang hams it up with a delightfully morbid performance. It's definitely worth a watch if you like ghost stories with some twists and turns. See more Jeffrey P 06/25/2023 Doesn't quite hit the mark as it jumps around alot, and deals with alot of illusions and hallucinations, doesn't make a great deal of sense. Then it just gets hokey, before becoming ridiculous as the cult of the orange attempts to resurrect their Orange King during a blood wolf moon. See more Mark C 12/06/2022 Very enjoyable watch. Stephen Lang gives a very menacing performance and effortlessly holds your attention while on screen. Bruce Dern is as expected, always a joy to watch and a great piece of casting. The movie is very much a slow burn, masterfully building the tension from the very start. It keeps you guessing through multiple twists which all pay off nicely in a thrilling climax. The set design is incredible, very authentic and a beautiful display of mid century modern design. As a fan of this style of architecture I was drawn to the movie and they absolutely nailed this aspect and it was just gorgeous to see on screen. Well worth a watch. See more MICHAEL J 12/05/2022 A subtle well-crafted masterpiece. Be patient and be rewarded with a puzzle that comes together nicely. The art design is beautiful and there are a number of well-placed homages to horror classics that will tickle any real genre fan. See more Read all reviews
