Critics Consensus

Adding dashes of horror to a noir premise, Midnighters is a genre-bending chiller that delights as often as it scares.

Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com This is a thrilling noir that takes no prisoners and pulls no punches. Rated: 3/4 Mar 7, 2018 Full Review Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com A notable genre surprise early in the year. Rated: 3/4 Mar 2, 2018 Full Review Frank Scheck The Hollywood Reporter A low-budget film noir that benefits greatly from its tautness and lack of pretension. Mar 2, 2018 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed The character study this becomes is the most interesting part of the film paired with the thriller aspect that creates a captivating watch. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 14, 2020 Full Review Matt Donato Flickering Myth Midnighters leaves you with the taste of something more complex - truly, there's quite a lot happening - but it all folds together with such homogenized doughiness. Rated: 2/5 Nov 6, 2019 Full Review Josh Goller Spectrum Culture A stilted, cringe-inducing script dooms a promising if relatively well-worn premise in a caper that telegraphs its twists from a mile away. Audience Member Had the ingredients 2.6 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/21 Full Review Audience Member A twisty thriller that gets a little too twisty for its own good. The first half of Midnighters was really gripping - setting itself up to be cover up mystery, but it slowly devolves into a murder by number over some cash. It's alright but certainly not noteworthy after the first 40 minutes. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member well written and well done. Suspenseful turns, savage. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member All four people in this movie we're pretty horrible people. They all should have died, but unfortunately one of them made it Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This was an ok/watchable thriller (it's not a horror). It follows too many genre conventions to be special or surprising. It's about a young couple and the wife's sister who make increasingly bad decisions, leading to more and more peril. It's a bit easy to figure out where this heading, but there a plot twist that's unexpected. The acting is ok, nothing great or special, even including Alex Essoe from Starry Eyes fame. If you're bored and looking for something to pass the time this may work for you. But other than that I wouldn't really recommend it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Maybe as a cult movie like The Room Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
