Namrata Joshi Outlook The film does obliquely posit a new model of womanhood, one about risking the all-important beauty for a larger mission. But more than Maggie, the show actually belongs to the guilt-ridden Frankie... Rated: 3/4 Jan 8, 2019 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian A heartfelt, creditable picture. Rated: 3/5 Feb 27, 2015 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald I don't think it's his masterpiece, but it's a big, beautiful, sad film with unforgettable performances. As long as they pull a long face, furrow their brows and look pained after the fact, they are permitted to commit any number of crimes. Alejandro E The greatest strength of this sports drama is that Clint Eastwood gives it voice and personality, without imitating what has already been seen, and at the same time deals intelligently with the sensitive subject of euthanasia. Among his basic filmography, it is one of his must-see films. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/07/24 Full Review SkyRo P The film "Million Dollar Baby," featuring Hilary Swank, Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman, along with notable appearances from Mykul Peña and Anthony Mackie, is one I finally decided to watch for the first time. Despite hearing all the praise and accolades surrounding it, I had somehow put off seeing it until now, and I can only regret not watching it sooner. Clint Eastwood has an undeniable ability to captivate audiences, regardless of the role he takes on. He has developed his own unique style and remains one of the great actors of our time. In this film, he plays an older mentor figure with a compelling message, demonstrating that he has all the qualities needed to continue his impressive legacy. Morgan Freeman is, without a doubt, an extraordinary talent. His voice alone has a calming and resonant quality that draws viewers in, making his performances memorable. He consistently brings depth to his characters and enhances the emotional impact of every scene he's in. Hilary Swank delivers a remarkable performance as the underdog striving to become the "Million Dollar Baby." She is an incredibly talented actress, and in this role, she truly shines. While I sometimes find her performances to be somewhat one-dimensional, in this case, she fully embraces her character’s journey, showcasing her range and skill. I commend her for her outstanding work in this film. Visually, the movie has a dim and somber tone, which sometimes made it feel like I was wandering through dark streets, and I wished for a bit more light to engage with the story. However, the overall execution of the film is impressive. The writing is sharp, and the direction is masterful. This is a timeless film that will undoubtedly endure, with audiences revisiting it for years to come. New viewers like myself will eventually discover its brilliance and appreciate the powerful storytelling it offers. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/05/24 Full Review Benjamin W I love Clint Eastwood in everything he’s ever done, same as Morgan Freeman, and yet, Hilary Swank gives them a run for their money. This’ll forever be one of my favorites. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/26/24 Full Review David H Contrived tearjerker but so well done that you don't care about that Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/21/24 Full Review Mary S A stellar cast acting a serious take on death resulting from ambition to be more than a backwoods waitress. Beautifully balanced by the grasping family, who offer no reward to a doomed daughter for her risk taking. I doubt that the Catholic church loved the wimpy priest and his lack of counsel for a tormented soul. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Bill W Finally got around to watching this movie and it was very good and very depressing. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
