When Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) arrives in Frankie's gym seeking his expertise, he is reluctant to train the young woman, a transplant from working-class Missouri. Namrata Joshi Outlook The film does obliquely posit a new model of womanhood, one about risking the all-important beauty for a larger mission. But more than Maggie, the show actually belongs to the guilt-ridden Frankie... Rated: 3/4 Jan 8, 2019 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian A heartfelt, creditable picture. Rated: 3/5 Feb 27, 2015 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald I don't think it's his masterpiece, but it's a big, beautiful, sad film with unforgettable performances. Rated: 5/5 Dec 30, 2024 Full Review Mark Johnson Awards Daily An authentically earnest film about desperate and failed characters looking for humanity and salvation from each other, both inside and out of the ring. Jun 27, 2023 Full Review David Walsh World Socialist Web Site The characters Eastwood plays are not answerable to anyone, except themselves. As long as they pull a long face, furrow their brows and look pained after the fact, they are permitted to commit any number of crimes. Feb 15, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Over 20 years old and Clint Eastwood has made another one of his masterpieces with genuine awe behind the director's chair, inside the film, Swank and Freeman put on their best peformances a female boxer goes all out proving to her coach she can make it in the big leagues the film evokes such raw emotions from the first frame right up to the-end credits there's almost literally no music throughout the whole film since the drama and intensity is raised so high the film's climax may be a tad depressing and morbid but it fits the story's context Eastwood's no longer the exiciting action, Western filmmaker; the man is a complex, emotional storyteller casting top-notch actors and leaving a huge impact on the viewer all I can say is job well-done Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/15/25 Full Review thiago s Filme legalzinho, o roteiro é bacana, o elenco é muito bom, e ajuda a melhorar o filme, as cenas das lutas no boxe são legais, gostei da atuação da Hillary swank e do Clint Eastwood, a história é bacana, mas o filme poderia ter mais cenas relevantes, com tudo isso, eu até recomendo esse filme. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/14/25 Full Review Cfunk D The writing is phenomenal. I love the dialogue. Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood banter is great not to mention his arguments with the priest. Prime Hilary Swank and classic amazing Morgan Freeman narrating. The end is very depressing and dark Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/25 Full Review Wendel L Direção: Bom Atuação: Bom Roteiro: Bom Caracterização: Bom Soundtrack: Ok Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/25 Full Review Steve S I really don't think this movie deserves a 90% rating purely because of the subversion of expectations in the plot twist with the stool turning Maggie into a quadriplegic. Everything about the movie was great up until that point, but that ruined it for me, the rest is unwatchable. The story was going in the direction of Maggie becoming the champ and that's what I wanted to see. This movie should have been a slam dunk 10/10 but ended up throwing it all away for a pointless moral dilemma. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/03/25 Full Review Emil P Amazing masterpiece. It was slow in some parts, but it didn't matter that much. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Read all reviews
