Tony A This film is big on childhood nostalgia for me, but pretty weak in most other areas. It's a bit too dark in terms of lighting, the plot kind of drags along, and the frame story doesn't seem to resolve itself as much as you'd like. I'm glad I was able to find a way to watch it again, though, as I had only vague memories of it, but everything came flooding back when I saw it again as an adult. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/04/22 Full Review Audience Member There's a charm to it even with some wooden performances. The movie is like A Wrinkle in Time meets Lord of the Rings. You may also notice some Harry Potter similarities despite this coming out before those books. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member I haven't seen this film in over two decades! If it weren't for this fantasy adventure, I would have never been introduced to Christian Bale, his first screen debut! Very creative, full of imagination, but as far as I recall, the story doesn't make much sense. Must watch it again, if I can find the English translation of the flick. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member best memory of my childhood. It does not need to be very expensive, or feature lots of special effects. It is the spirit, that keeps films like this going. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Atrocious acting (even from Christopher Lee), terrible special effects, horrible dialogue and terrible writing. It really is a poor man's NeverEnding Story. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Magical movie, wonderful music--A Swedish classic!!
