dave s Miraculum is an absolutely remarkable Quebecois film, a mosaic of stories involving intertwined individuals desperately trying to come to terms with their perceived sins. The central story deals with Etienne (Xavier Dolan), a young man suffering from leukemia who refuses treatment due to his church's belief that blood transfusions are sinful. Linked by a deadly plane crash, other characters deal with addiction, gambling, guilt, drug smuggling and the possibility of a statutory rape. Dolan is remarkable in his role, as is Marilyn Castonguay as Etienne's conflicted girlfriend. Daniel Grou's direction is amazing as he uses odd but effective camera angles, slow zooms, meticulous tracking shots and perfect framing to tell this tragic story of fate and redemption, all leading to the devastating final scene. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is so much more than I thought it would be.I am talking about a great screenplay,a wonderful story,a great direction and an amazing ensemble of the best Quebecois actors. The story centers around different people and their stories but as a central story I can say we have Dolan's and Castonguay's relationship. The film is full of great performances and interesting stories, some more and some less interesting, but still interesting enough to carry the plot. Many things to take into consideration after watching this movie and many to question.I sure did enjoy it,loved it even, and I found it deeply satisfying and thought-provoking.For me Castonguay carried a huge part of the film on her shoulder, but I can say Dolan was also amazing in his role. "If planes crash is because your omnipotent God doesn't exist" Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member French "Crash" but not engaging. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Daniel Grou's multi character drama centers mostly on Julie and Etienne, a young couple in love and engaged who also happen to Jehovah's Witness and their struggle with their religious beliefs in the face of some big personal problems. Great performances from the ensemble cast that includes Marilyn Castonguay and Xavier Dolan as the couple, both of whom deliver excellent performances, along with Dolan regular Anne Dorval, but overall, the movie has very little to say that is of interest. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member HIstoire intéressante.
