Adam Graham Detroit News "Miss Arizona" depends on the group of women bonding, but writer-director Autumn McAlpin's script doesn't believably sell the situations that lead to their connection. Rated: C Jul 13, 2019 Full Review Kimber Myers Los Angeles Times The well-intentioned comedy never fully comes together to make a cohesive film, but there are glimpses of something interesting amidst its flaws. Jul 13, 2019 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times "Miss Arizona" alternates, not altogether gracefully, from heavy, tear-jerking moments to slapstick comedy, sometimes within the same sequence. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 12, 2019 Full Review M.V. Moorhead Phoenix Magazine At its core, Miss Arizona is a wistful, sweet-natured ensemble piece for five good actresses -- along with Braddy and Lively, Shoniqua Shandai, Dana Wheeler-Nicholson and Otmara Marrero round out the strong quintet. Jan 6, 2020 Full Review Kenneth R. Morefield 1More Film Blog The lack of nuance with which patriarchy and heteronormativity are cast as the source of all that is wrong with the world don't disqualify the film so much as render it uninteresting. Rated: 2/5 Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Female friendships rule in well-intentioned indie comedy. Rated: 3/5 Jul 12, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Much better movie than the premise would indicate and while subject to some cliches and some contrived plotting, the performances are good and so is the chemistry among the actors. Dana Wheeler-Nicholson lends her veteran experience to add needed energy without going over the top. And while domestic abuse is never funny, showing a group of abused women empowered and having as good a time as one could expect in their situations balances the comedy and serious themes well. That's not an easy lift and to pull it off is a credit to the writer/director. This kind of movie could easily be awful to unwatchable, but it's not. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member one of those great terrible movies Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member No spoilers. It came close to working but fell short. The writing was adequate but could have gone much farther, both for humor and pathos. The actors were, again, adequate but no more than that. the original premise is clever and lends itself to so many opportunities that, in this case, were missed. the characters are likable but you have to force yourself to maintain interest and that doesn't work. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review James So great. Saw it at a film festival in LA. Great film of empowerment and self discovery. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/08/19 Full Review Read all reviews
