Dwight Brown National Newspaper Publishers Association In the beginning you'll think something is missing from Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation. Excitement. Audacity. Edge. Visual splendor. Be patient. In it's own way, this action/thriller eventually gets the job done. Mar 15, 2017 Full Review Max Weiss Baltimore Magazine If Jason Bourne is our most brooding spy and James Bond is our suavest, then IMF agent Ethan Hunt is our most intense, the one most willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. SkyRo P Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation (2015) — the fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise — is a strong, action-rich addition to the series. Much like its two predecessors, I really enjoyed this installment. The action sequences were exhilarating, the direction was tight, and the story successfully kept the momentum going while adding a few new twists to the overall narrative. Tom Cruise, as Ethan Hunt, delivers a phenomenal performance once again. His ability to carry this franchise forward, piece by piece, is remarkable. There’s a clear thread tying these films together — a story arc that evolves over time — and you appreciate it even more when you watch them back-to-back and start to connect all the dots. The careful way the story is constructed makes me excited to continue the franchise and see where it goes. One criticism I do have, however, is the way the series disregards its previous female leads. At the end of the fourth installment, there seemed to be a team forming, a sense of forward momentum with those relationships. But here, we barely hear a word about those women; instead, we’re presented with a new lead, Rebecca Ferguson, who — while undeniably talented and a great addition to the story — underscores a frustrating pattern in the franchise. The women from previous missions disappear without a proper goodbye, without closure for their stories, which feels unfair to both the character and the fans who connected with them. Meanwhile, the men — Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and Jeremy Renner — all stay on, while the women come and go. It highlights a strange imbalance in how the franchise handles its character arcs. I’d much rather see those stories resolved gracefully — a proper send-off — instead of having them erased and replaced without a second thought. Overall, Rogue Nation is a very strong installment. It delivers exactly what fans come for — high-stakes action, clever missions, and Tom Cruise doing what Tom Cruise does best — but it falls a bit short when it disregards its own character continuity. Nevertheless, it’s a film I’d certainly recommend, and I’m excited to see where the story goes next — hopefully with more consideration for all its team members, not just the men. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/17/25 Full Review Audience Member This movie was a lot of fun, and it was incredibly intense, which for me and action movies, is a jackpot win Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/09/25 Full Review Isaac P I really like Rogue Nation's second half, and enjoyed a lot more than the first, kind of like the opposite of Ghost Protocol. Really like this one. The action isn't nearly as good as Ghost Protocol or M:I 3, it has good cinematography and direction from Christopher McQuarrie, and it's still really funny. Something I must say: Rogue Nation has the best team in my opinion. Hunt, Brant, Benji, and Luther all have really good chemistry, and all of their scenes work. We get the introduction of Ilsa, who is always a fun character, I particularly enjoy her in this movie. Overall, a really enjoyable Mission: Impossible movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/25 Full Review Ryan U they make this kind of story work Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/03/25 Full Review Luke T Great spy action thriller, on the edge off your seat fun, humour, high optain action, interesting characters, a mediocre villain, a suspenseful underwater scene, epic music and so many twists and turns that leave you feeling bamboozled and wanting to watch it more. Elsa Fault is a stand out here too.
