“Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway” is a great introduction to the three-movies arc, and one of the best mecha anime movies we have seen during the last few years. Go to Full Review

Hathaway features stunning animation, with gorgeous visuals that bring Earth to a far, far away future, a great use of CG that is never distracting, and the thrilling sounds of Hiroyuki Sawano to make the action and emotions hit ten times harder. Go to Full Review

Hathaway may be one of the best Gundam movies ever made. It's intelligent without being meandering in ideals and thrilling without being bombastic or incoherent. Go to Full Review

Hathaway is a solid Gundam entry, but it's smack in the FFO (For Fans Only) range. Go to Full Review

This isn't a stand-alone sequel, one in which the viewer can truly enjoy if they're not immersed in the long-term story arc of these characters, arcs that go way beyond this movie. Go to Full Review

Nathan J. @NathanDirector May 16 Rated: 7.2/10 ⭐️ Expected standard action; the grounded battles and mature tone blew me away. What Worked: A civilian-perspective camera angle during the Davao raid gives the mobile suits terrifying scale. Sawano’s score gives quiet scenes a dynamic flow, and the realistic designs perfectly fit the morally grey narrative. The Friction: The middle really dragged for me as hotel conversations & political tension stalled the momentum. The night battles were too dark, making 3DCG mecha choreography hard to track. Dropping us into Hathaway’s extremism felt sudden without bridging from his past. Verdict: Watch for a stunning political thriller. Skip if you want nonstop brawls. See more Andrea F @AndreaFrancolini Apr 16 Design and graphics are top notch but story doesn’t make any sense. As it happens with most of Japanese Anime they are consistently incapable of writing something that stick together. Can’t understand why that happened over the past 20 years for almost every product but finding good story writing is close to impossible. The whole story is between stupid and complete nonsense, including single plot lines. Had to force myself finishing the movie. See more Alessandro A @RT14928326 05/30/2024 Exceptional quality in computer animation, good story line and thrilling to the end. I hope that the sequel will come soon. See more Peter H @Hoke_M 06/19/2023 Not your usual Gundam. Mature (for this kind of thing), complex, restrained, and thrilling for it. The Gundam Andor. And it works as a stand alone. Looking forward to more in the same vein. See more 10/01/2022 this movie was a straight up bore and I kept painting my M.G. Barbatos while still on the runners by hand because I was bored. the movie was a lot of talking without any real substance or lore. See more Read all reviews
