DanTheMan 2 Right out of the starting gate, it's hard not to be disappointed and perhaps even slightly insulted by A Moment of Romance II. It's horribly unfocused, sharing very little of the original film's excitement or romance along with contrived plotting that doesn’t add up to more than manufactured pathos. While the first film at least had some thematic and dramatic justification for its tragic resolution, this one seems to follow a similar pattern to get a rise out of this audience. It doesn’t work; you have to care about the characters first. Johnnie To certainly didn't ghost-direct this one... That being said, this is far from a poorly made film, Benny Chan does a more than decent job in the film's direction. The actors all do a decent job with the material given even if Aaron Kwok isn't a real replacement for Andy Lau, the real highlight is the typically slimy Anthony Wong, and the music by William Wu does evoke some form of emotional resonance. Sadly, A Moment in Romance II spreads itself too thin; one that doesn't work as a romance or a thriller, a tragic case of a film trying to be everything to everybody, and ending up as a bit of nothing to no one. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review camille l A Moment of Romance était un formidable mélodrame typique du Hong Kong des années 90. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member In this sequel to the original, Wu Chien-Lien returns but plays a prostitute trying to raise enough money to bail her brother out of jail. She meets a motorcyclist named Frank, and fall in love. It's not as good as the first one, because it is missing Andy Lau. Anthony Wong is pretty cool as a jeering bald bike racer, but everything in this movie is way over dramatic. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member A Moment Of Romance 2 is new story, new characters and new musics(I think the original's music is better ).It has not connected with the original.Chien-Lien Wu and Director Benny Chan were returned to the sequel except Andy Lau.He was replaced by Aaron Kwok. The story is good but I think it was lack of romance. What i like in the film is the racing parts. The directing of Director Benny Chan on racing parts are stunning and cool and you will get more explosions too.Overall,it's a pretty good film although it was not as good as the original. If you are the fan of Aaron Kwok, you may give this a try.I guess romance movie fans may not like it and I would say better watch the original since you will get the same ending. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member this sequel to the original classic is nowhere near as good. the romance between Aaron Kwok and Wu Chien-Lien is not as believable as it was between her and Andy Lau in the 1st film. it's worth a rental due to a fun part by Anthony Wong and some excellent car stunts by the always dependable Bruce Law, but at times this one can be very laughable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member another heart breaking movie to watch & aaron cute as... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
