K M Poorly written, over-the-top acting, this film has the quality of a home movie. It's an embarrassment. The only positive is that the actors bear some resemblance to the actual Monkees. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review R J Having played their music on the radio and worked with Mickey and Davy I was hoping this would be a fun, entertaining, maybe even insightful experience. Nope. Embarrassing overacting... Poor choices for the Monkees... Early on "Peter" comments that he's a musician and can't act. In reality no one in this film can act. The movie tries WAY too hard to capture the fun of the real group and show, and fails miserably at almost every turn. Love the actual Monkees, but this is an unwatchable mess. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review Susan M The movie was pretty good, but the casting choice for Davey Jones nearly ruined it. Horrible fake English accent, butt chin, horrible acting, it's like they picked the first short guy who walked in because the outfits fit. Other than that, the movie was pretty good. I loved the Monkees even more than the Beatles, so this was a nice walk back through time for me. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review joe d I FINALLY got around to watching this movie and realized that I liked it more than I guess I should. I HATED the Monkees TV show when it was on (and still do) and I HATED the Monkees music when it was popular, but I like it NOW. So, even though I pretty much know everything that happened to these very TALENTED men, it was nice to see a recap. Whoever did the casting deserves all the awards given in this category. I thought all the actors not only looked like the guys (except maybe for Davy) they acted the parts as well. I am convinced that they cloned Peter Tork for this film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Sensational TV show, love it to death and I'm in the generation AFTER the millennials.
