Audience Member A love affair for Parkdale? Pleeeease. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Monkey Warfare was an astounding picture and a real blessing to Canadian cinema. Harkema's script was built with a humble yet powerful premise and some very well-designed characters. I really respect Harkema as a director, he was able to create such a unique story with a limited budget. It just goes to show that the depth of a film's plot has nothing to do with funding, it's all about an honest writer and the passion of the filmmakers. This was one of those movies made for the love of the art rather than raking in the profits. All three performers invested themselves in their roles superbly, the dynamics between the characters kept the plot interesting. I liked how elements such as pot, bicycles, music and scavenging were highlighted throughout the movie but remained in orbit around the life of a revolutionary. It brought in an intriguing contrast between aged radicals and young ones and offered a view at the life and trials of a burnt-out, middle-aged revolutionary. All-in-all, a very powerful movie built on humble prospects. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member mostly pretty awesome dry humor. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I was surprised I liked this. Not that I didn't expect to but I had no expectations and then when I saw it (the start) I was all "I don't think I'll like this! It seems very European meets Tarantino and some guy just got set on fire!" That is explained at the end. But it's funny, dark and biting but funny none-the-less. The characters are all likable regardless of their unlikability as a pseudo-family. The act well, are extreally well cast and fit perfectly into the city in which they are placed. A smart, dark yet wonderful film that frankly would make a great play! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A surprisingly prescient film for those Bikes Lanes on Bloor weirdos and a cautionary tale for the G20 douchebags who smashed up my city, Monkey Warfare is a gritty film in which an ex-revolutionary un-couple in Toronto's gentrifying Parkdale neighbourhood reluictantly lets their ingenue pot-dealer into their lives. The result? A lesson in revolution and an awkward love triangle, that, though heavy-handed in places and seeemingly wandering in the early-going, continuously ups the ante and finishes with a wallop. Another solid Canadian film that no one saw. What a shame. Watch this! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Decent story and character development. Cool indie Canadian cinema. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
