Charles Hartford But Why Tho? A Geek Community Despite some unclear character motivation and visual excess, Mononoke The Movie: The Phantom in the Rain delivers a tale worth experiencing. Its mystery and characters will draw viewers into a unique world that they won’t soon forget. Rated: 7.5/10 Nov 29, 2024 Full Review Pramit Chatterjee Digital Mafia Talkies I will recommend giving Mononoke a watch before dipping your toes into The Phantom in the Rain so that, at the very least, you have an idea of the vibe. If you love the show already, then I don’t think you need my approval to watch the film. Rated: 4/5 Nov 28, 2024 Full Review Erick Massoto Collider But Mononoke's biggest merit is not to fall into the easy trap of delivering style over substance. As gorgeous as it looks, the animated feature also delivers a heck of a compelling story. Rated: 9/10 Nov 27, 2024 Full Review Matt Schley Japan Times If the original series was cool, with its deliberate pacing, ironic detachment and dry humor, and that swinging theme song by jazz singer Charlie Kosei, the film version is hot: overwhelming, in-your-face, nonstop and loud. David H One of the best Netflix movies of the year, it's a movie full of emotions, I recommend that everyone who likes Japanese culture watch it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review J Y The visuals are mind-bending and overwhelming in a positive way but the story is deeply intriguing as well. My mouth was hanging open for a good ten minutes during the climax of the movie. Superb animation that looks way ahead of its time, like a celebration Japanese art from the year 2080. Worth a second watch to really uncover all the rich visual details including the stylistic references and homage to ukiyo-e paintings. Feels like taking a magic carpet ride through a Japanese painting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/15/24 Full Review Damian M Soundtrack could've been more engaging, art work is beautiful but alot to take in sometimes. Alott of fun characters, not bad. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/04/24 Full Review Souvik B Could have been so much better if they let the story breath and build on the suspense a little bit. It was a horror anime they morphed it into a cocomelon action movie. How did this get approved by the franchise? The story being great it deserved much better execution. Lacks long lasting character impressions, no memorable ost. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/30/24 Full Review Jordan M I just have a feeling honestly.
