As visually splendid as it is thought-provoking, Monos takes an unsettling look at human nature whose grim insights leave a lingering impact.

Andy Macias Every footage is worthy, every scene needed. Monos is more human than anything Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/06/19 Full Review Audience Member The first half or so, to me, felt didactic and indulgent... enjoying the cinematography and score a little too much without earning anything yet. The beauty of Lord of the Flies is the transformation. The cast here goes from already ‘wild' to just being ‘more wild' to the point where I can imagine this film working well if played on loop. That being said I would not want to endure the intensity and grueling interrogation of our tribal tendencies of the second half of the film- again. But I say this in the best kind of way, in that it is exciting, terrifying and brutally effective. The strain of impending doom never seems to waver, giving a revitalized pit of bleakness to your gut every time another wave of conflict crashes into the Monos crew. The real ending of this film is when you exit the theater and re-enter civilization and can finally breathe a sigh of relief, because Monos doesn't want to let you have it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review niais nice great movie. soundtrack used amazing frequency mixing to really set the tone of the scenes. amazing shots and framing. tremendously emotive and evocative Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/17/19 Full Review KB B This movie was so slow and boring I couldn't watch more than 35 minutes. It's definitely a cute for insomnia. Don't bother with this one. The Lord of the Flies 1963 version is so much better. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review S R 1001 movies to see before you die. Although this was unique, it didn't make it worthwhile entertainment. Saw on hbo. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review Dillon W Incredible film an unbelievably well shot should be shown in all film school cinematography classes. Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It's clear from the start that Landes is out to make a tragedy about innocence lost and the wickedness of political movements that rule by remote control with the capriciousness of Greek gods. He's succeeded brilliantly. Jun 25, 2020 Full Review David Stratton The Australian There are allusions to William Golding's Lord of the Flies, but that fine novel, and Peter Brook's 1962 screen adaptation, though also elliptical, provided far more satisfying drama than Landes somewhat frustrating epic... Rated: 3/5 Mar 26, 2020 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times There's something ... of Werner Herzog's Aguirre, Wrath of God in Colombian director Alejandro Landes's surreal, wildly beautiful third feature. Rated: 5/5 Nov 8, 2019 Full Review Taylor Baker Drink in the Movies Overly vague and distant, though it leaves memorable impressions with a handful of moments. Rated: 50/100 Jan 14, 2022 Full Review Andrew Gaudion VultureHound Nerve-shredding in its intensity, but utterly captivating, Monos is an exhilarating climb to the top of the Colombian mountains, and a breathless tumble back down to the jungles below. Rated: 5/5 Aug 28, 2020 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia The visual style constantly reminds me of the aesthetic similarities it shares with Coppola's 'Apocalypse Now', portraying the darkness of the human being in the heart of a Colombian jungle.
