For Momo (Pierre Boulanger), a young Jewish kid growing up in Paris in the early 1960s, life is pretty exciting. He's friends with many of the local prostitutes and loses his virginity to one of them, Sylvie (Anne Suarez). He also catches glimpses of a famous movie star (Isabelle Adjani) filming in his neighborhood. But it's his friendship with a Muslim shopkeeper, Ibrahim (Omar Sharif), that's the most rewarding part of his life. Gradually, the older man becomes a surrogate father to Momo.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

With tender, assured performances, Sharif and Boulanger elevate what might have been a rote coming-of-age tale.

Audience Member I watched this movie for a French Film course. This movie is absolutely great, and I love how it deals with the tenants of Sufism. Also, I like how the movie embodies the German concept of bildungsroman, which essentially means a coming of age story. Monsieur Ibrahim is also very culturally innovative because it demonstrates that people can overcome rigid boundaries and differences between cultures. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member just love the fact that Omar Sharif was still that Good :) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Great film touching story, beautiful scenery and awesome cast. A solid film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Well, I definitely liked the first half better than the second half. I really liked the film when it first started but as it went on it had me rolling my eyes at the sentimentality of it all and how it was trying to pull the viewers heartstrings. Also it was very predictable.
