Michael E I cannot believe I disliked this movie so much. I was supporting the serial killer most of the movie. It was if different directors were responsible for a set number of scenes, then someone else edited it to be spiteful. The theme had real potential and it should be remade, but only after research and a rewrite. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/11/23 Full Review jjjjjj j What starts off seeming as a lighthearted genre piece that transforms into much more. The film focuses on many of the same themes as its contemporaries; family, country vs. city life, and the everyday struggles faces by the less fortunate. Yet the film does not feel cliche and overdone but is still emotionally impactful and engaging. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Digging deeper into the film, it shows societal dissadvantages within social classes. A businessman taking adavtage of his workers rights, shutting them of for profit, a mentally challenged individual who has grown up being the a killer, and coming far to the countryside, an individual who wasn't able to get profer education then faces up scarcity and a threat of demolishion from these businessmen being the monster in this film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member First of all, you need to understand the psychology of each character to get this movie. Bok-soo is a determined and hard-working girl. She does not have much, no education, no money, and she is a little mentally disabled, a nice fool, but what she has, she protects it with all her might. She seems useless at first sight, but she fights for what she loves and has to protect. It shows in how she fights for her spot that her grand-ma left to her, it also shows in her determination to kill the murderer of her sister that she loved more than anything and in her determination to protect Nari at all cost. The fact that she is mentally disabled is not here for us to pity her, but it's here to show that what society considers as a weakness and a misfortune can be a strength. She does not back down and goes to a killer's house with only a knife because she is a fool; She has the bravour and the determination to accomplish crazy things because she is a fool. Because fools do not think and do what they believe is right, they have the audacity to accomplish what logic labels as impossible. Taek-su is a psychopath. For him, the human life has no value. He is the perfect killer and he kills because it doesn't mean much for him, not because he enjoys it! Taek-su only cares for being loved and accepted by his family members, that is why despite all of the things they do to him, he takes care of them. He is only the reflexion of the twisted people around him, he is a characterization of their dark side. That is why everytime he asks his brother "do you want me to kill them", the brother doesn't say anything, because deep inside that is what he wants, and Taek-su only makes his desires true so that his brother can appreciate and validate him. He makes money by killing people for his greedy mother despite the fact that she has mistreated him all of his childhood because he craves for acceptance and love; Thus, he eventually let his family members manipulate him (cause yes, a psychopath can be manipulated). Monster is an absurdist movie (hence the black humour) that portrays the selfishness and evil that is in the people that call themselves "normal" and exposes the lack of logic in what we all call decency and norms. The monster in this movie is not the killer, look better. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One word to describe this: Ridiculous. The whole movie consists of crazy guy killing people, crazy girl screaming and crying, crazy guy meets crazy girl and they start killing each other. I can't believe 2 A-list star would star in such a movie. I'm so flabbergasted throughout the whole movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Just for Kim Go Eun's acting tbh. amazing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
