Well-acted and visually stylish, Monsters and Men tells its timely story with enough compassion and complexity to make up for occasionally uneven execution.

KB B It's an entertaining film with lots of drama and a good storyline. It's sad what people of color must endure. It's worth the watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/08/23 Full Review Christopher R Subtle and real. Sensational without the sensationalism. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/16/23 Full Review Audience Member What works about this movie is that it's stylized in a way where you are there with the characters - in the locker room, at the police station, in front of the liquor store. In this way it's very intimate. When a character overhears someone talking about the shooting in this film you feel like it's you are part of that private conversation. What could also be a beat you over the head think piece is nuanced and invites you into the conversation. The only down side is that it plays like three films instead of one interconnected one. Well done and very appropriate for our time. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Manny P How many times do they have to rehash this , all too familiar , trope ? End of Watch, Colors ? Give it a f'n rest please ? Washington Jnr. is not an actor in any shape or form. Just another example of a stellar father giving him a shoe horn and failing. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/10/21 Full Review Audience Member Monsters And Men after needing to watch a second time which I did, is a film that proves effective, and more it seems after second viewing, but I don't think it's as effective as other films about the issue of police brutality. There is one intense scary scence in Downtown Manhattan later in the film. The movie seems like an epic in a sense, like Moonlight and Green Book. It is a decent watch and I recommend watching it for free while it's still on certain sites for free. 3 and a half out of 5. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member a very moving movie with amazing acting from the cast Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review Seems to be quite deliberately attempting not to enflame but inform. Jan 29, 2019 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) It's smoothly done, by the writer-director Reinaldo Marcus Green, with few histrionics and delicate jumps between three separate stories. Rated: 3/5 Jan 22, 2019 Full Review Philip De Semlyen Time Out John David Washington's role is more muted than in 'BlacKkKlansman', but he shows tantalising glimpses of dad Denzel's effortless charisma. Rated: 4/5 Jan 21, 2019 Full Review Vadim Rizov Filmmaker Magazine This movie isn’t made for me, is it? Monsters and Men provides mimetic affirmation that these are dark times, and you’re not alone in constantly clocking them. Jan 6, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Despite losing steam in its third act, “Monsters and Men” maintains a steady sense of intimacy and relevance. Its stories feel personal and offer unique points of view on a smoldering current issue.
