Jessica Kiang Variety With such a zippy rhythm, nothing has time to overstay its welcome, a quality that extends right across the film's snappy 94 minutes. Jun 4, 2021 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times "Monuments" is at times grounded, at times almost hallucinogenic - and always smart and entertaining. Rated: 3/4 Jun 4, 2021 Full Review Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com A tedious and unfulfilling exercise in sentimental quirk. Rated: 1.5/4 Jun 4, 2021 Full Review Nathaniel Muir AIPT While the movie can get a little too derivative at times, it is not without its charm. The story of acceptance can be moving and there is some funny moments. Aug 3, 2021 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com "Monuments" is sold with a decent sense of humor, credible heartbreak, and sharp editing, keeping this oddball effort on the move. Rated: B Jul 28, 2021 Full Review Dayne Linford Battleship Pretension Despite the talent supporting it, Monuments ends up being one of a million slight indie films about appreciating life and what you have, learning to let go, what's really valuable, and on and on deep into the dustbin of clichéd moral takeaways. Audience Member Cute and mildly entertaining in a film festival kind of way. Quirky enough to hold your interest but no deeper than a shallow pond. Won’t keep you wondering about the mysteries of life. Was it me, or did the purse with the ashes keep changing from off-white to yellow and back? What’s that about? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/27/22 Full Review Audience Member A quirky love story. David Sullivan carries the film as the grieving husband, while Shunori Ramanathan is stunning as the bewitching gypsy-woman who wants to keep him all to herself. Eminently watchable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/04/21 Full Review Audience Member An honest, heartwarming and hilarious portrayal of the ups and downs of a relationship and the difficulties of letting go. The many quirky characters and quick cuts reminded me of Wes Anderson. Great cinematography and soundtrack. Shunori Ramanathan, who plays Amber, was especially excellent - definitely an actress to be on the look out for!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member IN A NUTSHELL: A young widower sidesteps grief, loss, and familial dysfunction when he steals his wife's ashes and sets off on an impulsive odyssey through America's heartland to find something he'd lost long before her death. The film is directed by Jack C. Newell with writing help by Rebecca Fons. THINGS I LIKED: David Sullivan plays the perfect Every Man. Marguerite Moreau adds a lovely spark. Other cast members include Joel Murray, Paulina Olszynski, Rivkah Reyes, and David Pasquesi. The dance scene in the bar was fun and unexpected. There were some strange music choices that just made the movie more quirky and random. The oddball road trip keeps things moving and you never know where it's going to go. THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: There are flashbacks that blend with the widower seeing his wife again, making the timeline a little bit confusing at times for some viewers. Some scenes are just bizarre. It's a little slow-moving. The takeaway lessons are cliched, yet we all still need to be reminded of them. TIPS FOR PARENTS: Kids will be completely bored. You see the corner of a bed shaking with some sound effects that imply hanky panky. Lots of alcohol. Talk of death. Some profanity. You can see my full review on my Movie Review Mom YouTube channel. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie was good, entertaining, despite the sad topic. The two main characters were likable, the others a bit too quirky, but interesting to say the least. Well done!
