Patric N Dec 20 Extreme low budget monster comedy that tries some new ideas for the time. The lead character is a smart and strong modern woman who can save herself while still being feminine. Her boyfriend is the less intelligent and lazy guy who has a history of failure. The movie has some good surprises and is not always predictable. While the script definitely isn't great and changes some characters personality through the movie, the very cheap practical effects work well while the cell animated scenes work less good. Gunnar Hansen, known as the original Leatherface, has a role in the movie and they do a lot of homage to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". The singer Ron Asheton play a sometimes goofy perverted Park Ranger and sometimes kickass professional. The beginning of the movie gives us questions that never get answered and the ending is a bit convenient and doesn't fit with the beginning, but over all an OK and entertaining movie if you are in the mood for low budget monster action comedy. See more Jens B @Jens97 Jul 27 Let's be honest: sharks, snakes, piranhas, alligators – yes, even spiders don't feel nearly as unpleasant in a horror film as mosquitoes. My summer scourge plays the lead role in "Mosquito"; and what a role! Bringing so many creature effects to the screen with such a small budget is quite an achievement. While the film begins with a slightly comedic touch, Gary Jones thankfully focuses entirely on the fight against the not-so-small beasts as the running time progresses. The mosquitoes are not only radioactively contaminated, they are also an alien mutation that is extremely aggressive. "Mosquito" begins like John Carpenter's "The Thing," feels a bit like Joe Dante's "Piranha," and then ramps up like Sam Raimi's "The Evil Dead." The production is energetic, the focus on a few characters serves the plot well, and the titular mosquitoes are lovingly handcrafted. Add to that a few slimy effects, Gunnar Hansen with a mullet and chainsaw, and nice visual gags (e.g. the hot dog man) to round things off. See more Asher L 12/12/2023 This movie is a beautiful disaster, I don't know if it's just the age or the budget but the effects are not convincing at all, buckets of fake blood and a Nickelodeon amount of goo. The acting is rough to say the least, but it's hilarious. If you're watching this movie to be scared, you'll be disappointed, if you're watching to have a good time get the popcorn and get ready for laughs, this is the benchmark for "so bad it's good." See more 01/27/2021 The acting and a lot of the effects are abysmal, but it's a stupid giant monster B-movie, what more can you expect? The fact that you can tell everyone involved loves it and are having a good time goes a long way. It's ridiculous, but it can be fun, and has some really funny moments. See more brendan n 09/28/2020 Mosquito was a film recommended to me by some of my Z grade horror loving friends. This has to be the worst film I have seen in 2020. The film-making was home quality and each setup was nearly worse than the one before. I understand the film was low budget but if you compare it to something like Evil Dead you'll understand my comments. The low budget just means you need to be creative elsewhere. I tried to leave my mind at the door but this grew progressive worse as it went along. The characters were one dimensional and the dialogue was hilariously bad. I understand the film has its fans out there, but sadly I won't be one of them. This lacked a coherent idea and that ending offered very little. 26/09/2020 See more 09/11/2018 Guaranteed better than the same sort of thing released in the current era, but Mosquito was still not a win in my eyes. The acting was abysmal and the creatures themselves were hit and miss. See more Read all reviews
